During the 1930s and 40s the young Rebecca Lepkoff carefully catalogued everyday happenings on the Lower East Side through photographs. Her photos capture the essence of what it was like to live in such a vibrant and close-knit multiethnic community. Over 170 reproduced photographs are accompanied by essays written by Peter Dans and Suzanne Wasserman to give a true feel to the forgotten Manhattan neighborhood and its residents.
